Dopo più di sessant'anni un piccolo dono di una sconosciuta famiglia cassinate torna nella sua città di origine.

Tutto ha inizio poco più di un mese fa, quando Margareth Garrard, figlia di un ex combattente che ha prestato servizio presso una unità della Royal Artillery britannica impegnata a Cassino si imbatte per caso nel Sito del War Memorial.

Subito la signora Garrard ci scrive, informandoci che suo padre durante la primavera del 1944 aveva combattuto dalle parti di Cassino e che, in una pausa di combattimenti, aveva ricevuto in dono da una famiglia italiana (della quale purtroppo non ricordava il nome) una tovaglia.

Ora il suo desiderio era che questo ricordo tornasse là da dove era venuto, e così ne ha fatto dono al Cassino War Memorial.

La tovaglia ci è giunta proprio in questi giorni, e noi siamo orgogliosi di esporla nel nostro Museo come un frammento di quella memoria che ci stiamo sforzando di mantenere viva.

The strange history of one table cloth...

It all began a little more than a month ago, when the daughter of a former soldier who served with the Royal British Artillery at Cassino visited the War Memorial.
Later Mrs. Garrard wrote to us, telling us that during the spring of 1944 her father had fought at Cassino and that, in a rest period between battles, he had received a gift of a table cloth from an Italian family (unfortunately she did not remember their name).
Wanting this memento returned to where it had come from, she has made this a gift to the Cassino War Memorial. The table cloth was sent from England recently, and we are proud to display it in our Museum as a fragment of that memory which we are striving to keep alive.
